Old Country Road Fried Fishsticks!!!

Has a great ring to it, doesn’t it? Little tartar sauce, some fries with ketchup, maybe have a nice table cloth to set the mood…sorry, am I reveling? Ok, I’ll stop.

In a game that was tight, intense and had a playoff feel to it, even though the home team will most likely not even sniff post season play, the Rangers drew first blood with another one of their bitter rivals Monday night, as the defeated the Islanders, 4-2 at Nassau Coliseum. Chris Drury broke an 11 game goal-less drought, by scoring twice, including the first goal 56 seconds into the game, on a shot from behind the net that went in off the skate of Isles Goal, Joey MacDonald. Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves, and sparkled particularly in the first 40 minutes of the game, including a couple fantastic saves on Trent Hunter, one from point blank, another on a redirection. The Blueshirts won for the 9th time in their first 12 games of the early season and, at 9-2-1, are off to their best start since the 1983-84 season when they went 9-3. Ryan Callahan and Scott Gomez also had goals for the Boys in Blue, who return home on tomorrow for a 7 pm tilt against the Thrashers at the Garden.

This game was close until the 3rd period, and I’m not surprised. Like I mentioned the other day, the ‘Sticks always play us tough regardless of how bad they are, and right now they’re pretty bad. But in this game, they were feisty and MacDonald played really well subbing for the injured Rick DiPietro, who was scratched with an “undisclosed lower body injury”. I’m telling you, Charles Wang is gonna regret that 15 year contract for a long, long time!

I would give you links to the game recaps, but you’ve probably read those by now, as I am a day late with this blog. So instead I will give you something else. I recently completed a podcast with a buddy of mine from school. And it is now up on his website. The podcast is called Flagrant Fouls and you can listen to it here. We talk NHL and bash Philly, so in essence it’s almost as if you’re listening to my blog instead of reading it!

So that’s it for now. Quick update, I have set the starting date for my radio show, appropriately titled "The Ranger Rant". It will be starting up on Tuesday, November 11th at 8 pm, through Youcastr.com. In the meantime, check out the podcast and I’ll be back with a preview for the game tomorrow.

BACK WHERE I BELONG!!!

Yep, that’s right! Who says you can’t go home? I know, I know. It’s been months…years…decades, centuries! Alright, not really…but it’s been a while! I would like to welcome all of you back to The Gr8 Blue Blog (formerly True Blue Blog). As some of you know, I had started this site up late last season, and after some initial early success, had moved on to a bigger, more known website with the hopes of expanding on that. Sadly, it has not worked out as planned. So after much thought and debate, I have decided to go back to my roots. I thank the website for the opportunity to write for them and wish them success in the future. And in all honesty, it’s better this way. Not only do I feel more at home here, but I can make the focus more about me! And isn’t that really what it’s all about?? ;-D

Anyway…so we have a hockey game tonight! The Rangers, off to their best start in years, travel to LongGUYland tonight, to take on Gordon’s Fishsticks of Nassau County. The Boys in Blue are coming off back to back victories over the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Pittsburgh Penguins, featuring Squid Lips and the Slewfooter. The ‘Sticks meanwhile…suck, but are you really surprised? They have no one on that team other then BGuer, and TP, I mean, DP. Alright fine, they have Mike Comrie, who’s dating Hilary Duff (not a bad thing), and they have Doug Weight, who at this point in his career has become his name. And what do you want to do with all that extra Weight? LOSE IT!!! Yeah, I know. Lame. Leave me alone, alright? Having fun over here…

Anyway, so that’s the story. Rangers & 'Sticks tonight. We should beat them. DP has not looked healthy and we’re the better team. But the Icelanders always play us tough and I can see RDP’s hip all the sudden being healthy tonight and him putting on a show, and then going back to the albatross that he and that contract of his sometimes look like against Philthy on Thursday. And speaking of Philthadelphia, can you believe that those Dirtbags are ONE WIN away from breaking their wanna-be curse?? UGH!! Yeah, that’s right. I called the city Philthadelphia, I called the team Dirtbags, and I called it a wanna-be curse. I hate the Phillies, I hate their fans, and I hate their city. And their curse is stupid. “Waaahhh, we’re Philly! And we haven’t won a championship since 1983 cause some of the buildings in our city (unrelated to sports in anyway shape or form), are taller then Billy Penn’s Statue!” No, you haven’t won ‘cause your sports teams all blow. So, shut up you losers.

Anyway, a few quick reminders, as some of you may already know, I am in the process of launching my own internet talk show through Youcastr.com within the next few weeks. So keep your eyes peeled. More details to come on that impending train wreck!

Also, unlike my former, non-paying employers, anyone can comment on this site. You don’t have to be a member, and I know that was an issue for some people with the other site. So, I expect feed back people. And suggestions. And the occasional insult thrown my way. Hey, if I’m behaving irrationally and making you wanna beat me with a hockey stick, I wanna know about that….so I can do it some more!

Ok, I promise I’ll be a little more serious with the next blog. But today is a celebration, so read, laugh, COMMENT and enjoy!!

Man, it’s great to be back. I freaking love this page, don’t you?

Puck drops at 7 pm tonight. Let’s roast ‘em. GO BLUE!!!
