February 23, 2007 A.D.

Ok, contrary to popular belief, A.D. does not stand for Anno Domini. At least not today it doesn't. No, here in Rangerland, A.D. will stand for "After Disaster" as the Rangers, attempting to put the Great Montreal Massacre of this past week behind them, are back on the ice tonight for a 7 p.m. tilt against the Sabres, this time in Buffalo.

Obviously a huge game for the Rangers tonight. And we should be able to tell very early on how blowing a 5-0 lead against the Canadiens on Tuesday night, has affected them. There's really only 2 ways they can react. Good or bad. They can either let this be the start of a huge downward spiral, ala the 2007 New York Mets, and not make the playoffs, or they can be pissed as hell, use that complete embarrassment as a motivational spring board and go on an absolute tear, starting with Buffalo. They beat them to within an inch of their lives a week ago, there is no reason why they shouldn't at least just beat them today. And honestly at this point, anything less is unacceptable.

Anyway, here are some links to preview today's game. First the Daily News, then the Post, then Rangers.com.

Wish I could give a little bit more of a personal analysis, but I gotta be out the door, literally, in 7 minutes. So let's just hope that the Rangers have used these past few days off to really look themselves in the mirror. They need to right the ship, starting today. Tuesday sucked, and it sucked bad. And my blog from the other day indicated how angry I was. Let's hope they are just as angry. The collapse happened, nothing can change that. But it's over. So let's turn the page and go out and destroy Buffalo tonight!!

Puck drops at 7 pm. Enjoy the game everyone, and LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

The Montreal Massacre!!!

Ok, so I know I'm supposed to be professional and all with this blog, as I am doing this to try and get my name out there as I pursue my journalism career. And I promise I will try and maintain some sense of professionalism within today’s blog, but I can’t guarantee it will be much!!

So, where do I start?

How about this was the most humiliating, most agonizing, most disgusting and THE most vomit inducing loss I have ever witnessed in the 20 plus years I have been watching the Rangers? How do you a blow a freaking 5-0 lead??? HOW?? Bottom line: YOU DON'T!!! When you score 5 goals in the first period and you chase the starting goaltender, YOU CLOSE THAT GAME OUT!!! There are no if’s, and’s or but’s about it!! YOU JUST DO IT!!!

Not enough?? Ok, let me continue…

How about I would also like to find the douche bag responsible for producing last night’s game for FSNY (Fricken Stupid Numbnut Yackoffs!!), and beat him to death with a folding chair after throwing this stat up on the screen, following the Canadiens cutting the Ranger lead to 5-4...

“The Rangers have never blown a 5-0 lead.”

Oh really? Thank you Captain Obvious! Do you secretly work for the Canadiens? Or were you sitting in the control room with a bunch of people, taking bets saying, “Let’s see how long after we throw this stat up, that they actually blow the game!” I mean really, why not just post on the TV screen for every Ranger fan watching last night, “HEY RANGERS?!?! THIS IS LE-DOUCHE BAG DE-CANADIEN FAN PRODUCER, AND I DARE YOU TO BLOW THIS 5-0 LEAD!!!” Sorry, but something like that should be grounds for firing when the home town feed goes and throws a stat like that up on the screen last night! Fricken idiots.

Anyway I promised professionalism, right? Fine, here’s your freaking links to the game summaries, here, here, and here. Figured I'd give the positive Ranger spin for the last one. "Incredibly exciting five-minute overtime period". Yeah, whatever.

On a final note, anyone who is familiar with my rants on NJO and other boards knows my long, ongoing hatred for the NY Post and NY Daily News, who continue to blatantly and purposely shun the Rangers from back page headlines when they have deserved it (good or bad) since the lockout. Well last night’s debacle was certainly deserving of the back page, and not on a positive note. So, for today, I would like to offer many thank you's to the News and the Post for continuing to be the hockey hating, dirtbag losers that they are!

Also, can we have someone else comment on this blog besides Wolfie??? You people are big time slackers! Come on Check, I’ll even welcome your opinion today!! ;-)

Crunch time starts now for the Blueshirts

After a 5 day layoff that could either help them by giving their injured some much needed time to recover, or cripple them by making them extremely rusty, the Rangers return to the ice this afternoon for a 1 p.m. face-off against the Sabres at the Garden.

Henrik Lundqvist, fresh off the signing of his new 6-year deal worth $41.25 million, will get the start in net after having the last 2 games off in favor of Stephen Valiquette last week against the Flyers and the Capitals. Brendan Shanahan is also expected back this afternoon, after missing the last 5 games following a knee-on-knee collision with Dustin Penner of the Oilers back on Jan. 5th in Edmonton. Shanny played 10 games following the collision, and realized that it was a mistake and should've sat out right away, rather then force it, as favoring the injured knee caused him to also have problems with his hip, groin and hamstrings.

"To get two weeks off if you're not hurt is one thing," Shanahan said. "But when I went knee-to-knee with Penner in Edmonton, I probably just should have accepted that I had a sprained knee. But that's just not the way I've done things throughout my career.

"Maybe I've learned a little lesson with this one. I should have just accepted that it was a 10-day, two-week injury back then and I wouldn't have developed these subsequent problems."

Shanahan has been skating for the last 5 days now and says that his left leg is feeling much better.

Petr Prucha, skated yesterday at practice, but is not expected back as he is still nursing a bruise right shoulder. Marc Staal is day to day following a bout with the flu. Marcel Hossa is not expected to play, despite being cleared to play after missing 13 games with back spasms. Marek Malik had been cleared to play also, but it is unclear if he will.

Rangers.com has a pretty good game preview and the Post has a little blurb how about Lunqvist is key to the Rangers run down the stretch of the season. The boys are currently tied with the Bruins for the final spot with 63 points, but if the season ended today, they would be on the outside looking in because the B's have one more win. Boston also has 2 games in hand. Hard to believe, being that the Rangers were off for 5 days due to the moronic NHL scheduling (yes, I am gonna beat that like a dead horse).

So this is it folks. The time for talk is over, and it is now officially gut check time. March is going to be the month from hell for them as they will spend mostly all of it playing Philly, the Pens, the Devs and the 'Sticks. So they need to close out this month on a high note, need to kick it into high gear and they need to do it now!

I'll be back a little later with a recap and hopefully a preview of tomorrow's game.

Fingers and toes crossed, game on, LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

Henrik resigned

When the Rangers finally take to the ice again on Saturday in Buffalo, they will do so with lots of rest, and with their star goalie locked up for the foreseeable future.

Several published reports from the Daily News, ESPN, and TSN indicate that the Rangers have resigned franchise goaltender, Henrik Lunqvist to a 6 year deal worth approxiamately $6.5 million per season. Some of language in the contract still needs to be ironed out, but the Rangers will apparently make the announcement sometime with in the next few days, perhaps as soon as tomorrow.

This is good news, Ranger fans. Having the contract situation out of the way will hopefully allow Henrik to concentrate soley on hockey, which will be key if the Rangers are going to not only make the playoffs, but make some noise. He denies it, but as I stated the other day, I think the contract situation, plus the ailing health of his father was weighing on the King. At least now, the situation he could control is taken finally taken care of.

So that puts to rest any question as to whether Stephen Valiquette's back to back starts this past weekend, were an indication that Henrik had lost favor with the organization. THE KING IS BACK!!!

Point against the Caps, not good enough

After an impressive win over the Flyers on Saturday in Philly, the Rangers were unable to carry that momentum over into Washington yesterday, dropping a heart breaker to the Capitals in overtime, 3-2. Stephen Valiquette, followed up his shutout over the Flyers with another solid effort 24 hours later, making 21 saves, but was helpless to stop Mike Green's slapshot that deflected off the stick shaft Rangers defenseman Marc Staal 23 seconds into overtime after Ryan Hollweg had gone off for tripping in the final minute of regulation, resulting in a 4 on 3 power play for the Caps. The Rangers earned a crucial point, but in all honesty needed 2 as they are now off for the next 5 days before heading to Buffalo next Saturday to take on the Sabres.

I was impressed with the Rangers play this weekend. I won't take that away from them. I didn't see the game on Saturday, but caught some highlights and they looked good. And they did play well yesterday. But it doesn't take away from the fact that the power play was again, inaffective, going 0-6 yesterday. Yes, they scored twice with the man advantage on Saturday, but combine that with the 0-4 effort against the Ducks on Thursday, and they were 2-16 in these past 3 games. Not good enough for a team that now has to sit back for the next few days and hope that they don't find themselves out of the playoff picture the next time they take the ice, come Saturday.

The Post and the News both have recaps of the game.

By the way, let's not overlook the fact that Renney started Valiquette in both games this past weekend. Lunqvist has not been good lately and he'd better use these next couple of days to straighten his head out. Valiquette is a good backup, but the Rangers are only going to go as far as the King will take them. And if he is not up to the task, no offense to Stephen, but the Rangers will not make the playoffs.

Here's some good news that may help. According to John Dellapina's blog, Lunqvist's contract could be finalized as early as this week. Let's hope that this is true. I think that this, along with the health of Henrik's father has been a distraction for him. Hopefully, getting the contract out of the way will at least take one thing off his mind for the stretch run.

On a final note, our thoughts and prayers go out to Richard Zednik and his family, who, thankfully, is ok after the skate blade of teammate Olli Jokinen struck the side of his neck during the Panthers-Sabres game yesterday. Zednik had to be rushed to the hospital after blood started pouring out of his neck. He is in stable condition and resting comfortably after undergoing surgery at Buffalo General Hospital to close a laceration in his neck.

Pivotal weekend for the Blueshirts

After winning 4 out of their last 5 games, including 3 straight over the Flyers, Canadiens, and Devils, the Rangers continued their pattern of one step forward, 2 steps back by dropping their last 2 games, and find themselves with 2 pivotal games this weekend, with back-to-back tilts against the Flyers this afternoon, and the Capitals tomorrow before getting 5 days off due to the NHL's awful scheduling.

I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of these next 2 games. The Rangers need points, and they need them badly. The good news is they are playing the Flyers, whom they always seem to beat in their building. The bad news is they're playing the Capitals 24 hours later, whom they always seem have trouble with.

Stephen Valiquette, will get the start today against the Flyers, giving Henrik Lundqvist a day to collect his thoughts, following a not so great performance against the Ducks the other night, before he gets the nod for the matinée against the Caps tomorrow in Washington.

Brendan Shanahan will not play today, nor tomorrow as he is still recovering from a sore knee. The plan is to give Shanny this whole week off and so he can hopefully be ready to play next weekend, when the Rangers travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres.

Marcel Hossa will also not play as he will miss his 11th consecutive game with back spasms.

Sorry there are no links, but I'm running late for an appointment. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to edit later.

Enjoy the games. And as always, LET'S GO RANGERS!!

Settings changed

Hey everyone. I got emails from a few people saying they tried to post comments, but were unable to. I originally had the settings so only members who subscribed to the blog could post. And there is a link to subscribe below. But ya know what? I'm just gonna make it easy for everyone, be daring, and make the settings so anyone can post here. Haha...that should be fun! Let's hope Hatboy and some of the other goons from NJO don't discover this site!

So the settings are changed and everyone can post now. So enjoy. And look for my new blog tomorrow.

Later peeps!

The bloom is off the rose...

...Of me being nice and calm that is. Yeah, I know. Already? Jeez, that didn't take long!

Look, it was Day 1. I didn't want to start off ranting and raving right away. Figured if I did that, I'd scare everybody off. But it's Day 2 now, so I only expect to lose half of you. That is, if I even have any "you" to lose...Hello? Hel-lo-oo? Anybody out there??(pounds on glass).

Anyway...what was I gonna do? Oh yeah, rant about the game.

What is there really to say though? It was a disgusting, despicable display tonight. I mean, really. I guess I shouldn't be too upset though as they were playing the defending Stanley Cup Champions. But ya know what? That's just it. They were playing the defending Stanley Cup Champions! And they're supposed to BE Stanley Cup contenders themselves! Well, they looked pathetic in my opinion. Yeah, they out shot the Ducks 33-19, had a good first period, and won 2 of the 3 fights. Big deal. Bottom line is, they were 0-4 on the power play, didn't crash the net, didn't win the battles along the boards, turned the puck over numerous times and they just never took control of a game that Anaheim was begging them to take control of. And after that complete no-show against the pathetic Kings the other night, and then the fight in practice between Avery and Lurch yesterday, I expected more, and I didn't get it, and it's just totally unacceptable. They cannot continue to give games away like this.

Bottom line is, there are 25 games remaining. A 15-10 record will give them 90 points. Is that good enough for them to make the playoffs? Yeah, probably. But they honestly should be better then that and they just aren't right now. What was supposed to be a vaunted offense is 5th from the bottom of the NHL. The power play is a pathetic 19th and Jagr couldn't hit the broad side of a barn right now. I could seriously see them going 12-13 to finish out the season at this point.

Oh, and just in case you weren't keeping score, they are now a nice, big 0-For against the Western Conference. That's 0-7-2 for all you stat geeks. Nice going boys. Stanley Cup Contenders my you-know-what!

Anyway, here's your game recap if you really want to read it. I'm too tired to type anything else. I'm going to bed. Good night!

Calling all hockey fans, calling all hockey fans

Welcome New York Ranger and hockey fans to my blog. This page will focus primarily on Gotham's Broadway Blueshirts, but we will also keep you up to date on the rest of the NHL as well. I'm new to all this website "stuff" (I know, I know - "Say what??"), so be patient with me!

Anyway, right now our boys in Blue, find themselves in 7th place in the Eastern Conference, 1 point ahead of Boston, 3 points behind Pittsburgh for 6th, and 4 points behind New Jersey for 5th following the Devils 3-2 shoot loss to Buffalo earlier tonight. The Rangers next hit the ice tomorrow night as the Anaheim Ducks visit the Garden. The Blueshirts are coming off a humiliating 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings who are dead last in the NHL with a 22-30-7 record and a measly 47 points! The big news was an incident that happened at practice today, when Sean Avery, whom I affectionately call "The Little Bastard", and Marek Malik, who we will refer to as "The Statue", got into a brawl at practice today. Sean apparently took exception to the fact that Frankenstein actually showed some heart for a change! Hey, congrats Lurch! Think you can take Avery up on his dare, and actually show up for a game?

Anyway, you can read about the incident in John Dellepina's Daily News blog.

So there is my first blog. Not bad huh? I will try and be a little more entertaining as I get more used to this blogging stuff. Also, don't forget to check out the list of links below, including CJ's blog. Yes, she is a Devil fan, but we'll cut her some slack, for now! ;-)

Anyway, the pucks drops at 7 pm tomorrow. We need to pile up some points in these next 3 games, being that the morons who make the schedules have us off for 5 days, following Sunday's tilt against the Capitals. Thanks a lot Bettman. Toolbag.

Should be a good one tonight. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
