Old Country Road Fried Fishsticks!!!

Has a great ring to it, doesn’t it? Little tartar sauce, some fries with ketchup, maybe have a nice table cloth to set the mood…sorry, am I reveling? Ok, I’ll stop.

In a game that was tight, intense and had a playoff feel to it, even though the home team will most likely not even sniff post season play, the Rangers drew first blood with another one of their bitter rivals Monday night, as the defeated the Islanders, 4-2 at Nassau Coliseum. Chris Drury broke an 11 game goal-less drought, by scoring twice, including the first goal 56 seconds into the game, on a shot from behind the net that went in off the skate of Isles Goal, Joey MacDonald. Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves, and sparkled particularly in the first 40 minutes of the game, including a couple fantastic saves on Trent Hunter, one from point blank, another on a redirection. The Blueshirts won for the 9th time in their first 12 games of the early season and, at 9-2-1, are off to their best start since the 1983-84 season when they went 9-3. Ryan Callahan and Scott Gomez also had goals for the Boys in Blue, who return home on tomorrow for a 7 pm tilt against the Thrashers at the Garden.

This game was close until the 3rd period, and I’m not surprised. Like I mentioned the other day, the ‘Sticks always play us tough regardless of how bad they are, and right now they’re pretty bad. But in this game, they were feisty and MacDonald played really well subbing for the injured Rick DiPietro, who was scratched with an “undisclosed lower body injury”. I’m telling you, Charles Wang is gonna regret that 15 year contract for a long, long time!

I would give you links to the game recaps, but you’ve probably read those by now, as I am a day late with this blog. So instead I will give you something else. I recently completed a podcast with a buddy of mine from school. And it is now up on his website. The podcast is called Flagrant Fouls and you can listen to it here. We talk NHL and bash Philly, so in essence it’s almost as if you’re listening to my blog instead of reading it!

So that’s it for now. Quick update, I have set the starting date for my radio show, appropriately titled "The Ranger Rant". It will be starting up on Tuesday, November 11th at 8 pm, through Youcastr.com. In the meantime, check out the podcast and I’ll be back with a preview for the game tomorrow.
